Gabby Giffords was a congresswoman and shot in the head while meeting constituents in her home town of Tucson in 2011.
What was immediately clear when watching Gabby and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, was the love and commitment they have for each other.
As a result of her injuries she has re-learnt how to do everything – walk, talk, move, eat. But thinking and love clearly come naturally to this woman.
Mark was her voice for much of this piece, but at the end Gabby stands up and after a brief introduction says:
“..but my spirit is stronger as ever, and I am fighting to make the world a better place and you can too. Get involved in your community, be a leader and set an example. Be passionate be courageous and be your best.”
I whole heartedly agree with this statement. It is strong, and beautiful.
My thoughts on positive body awareness has really turned this blog into a little community. A micro community but one that has heart and strength. I hope that my words and experiences, in addition to those of my readers help you be the best person you can be too.
There is a such a strong stigma regarding how women should be, and dress. What body size and shape are acceptable in this confusing modern world. But, the best role model to help change and shift other peoples perceptions are you.
The plus size fashion world is moving so fast and forcing itself into an extremely exciting era. There are so many more options which are allowing bigger women to express themselves with fashion.
So, embrace your differences, stop hiding, and without you knowing it, it is likely to change others opinions of you, and others like you.
