For the love of pink pants

Not many plus size women like to wear colour. They don’t like to me noticed. I am the opposite. I love colour, and I love to be noticed.

With the weather cooling, many people start to bring out the dark colours – black, navy, grey etc. I am one of those, but I don’t limit myself. Why would I when colour is FUN!!!

So, when I was trawling through the Marks and Spencer website, (because I am literally obsessed with M&S at the moment) I originally noticed the chinos featured in this post. But, not only did they have the navy, they had them in HOT PINK!! Interestingly, several of my non plus size followers saw them on Facebook (A Quaintrelle Life Blog)  and Instagram (@aquaintrellelife) and went gaga for them….and rightly so.

in addition to my gorgeous pink chinos, I paired it with a fantastic white linen shirt featuring a pink print. See a pattern? Despite hating pink as a little girl, I love it now.

As the pants are intense, I normally wouldn’t pair it with anything too crazy but the pattern on the shirt isn’t too loud so they pair nicely. As I wore some pink weaved ballet flats, I wanted to cut up the pinkness of the outfit with a new blue and white scarf. Even though the patterns on the shirt and scarf are different, it works really nicely. In the office, this keeps me warm. However, to and from the office I wear my favourite black trench – also from Marks and Spencer. This entire outfit is from M&S.

Not only is the clothing comfortable, but it looks good and stands out from the grey around us!!

Today’s Outfit: Shorts de jour

Shorts have certainly been flavour of the month! As a dress lover, this is a bit of a surprise. However, my recent trip to Mexico and Cuba convinced me that shorts are where summer fashions are at – they are practical and show off my ass-ets. We all need to make the most of what we’ve got!

So, earlier this week, I welcomed two pairs of linen shorts from Crossroads to the family. The best part, is they are currently on sale for $14.95 each!!

Today, I wore my gorgeous new hot pink short shorts matched with my (already blogged about) thin, white cotton Ralph Lauren shirt. In 35 degree heat, it was an excellent choice. And looked the part too while sipping iced coffee with a long time time in one of Sydney’s fashionable suburbs.

I must admit, the shorts are not a perfect fit. I should have waited till they were a bit looser as they are rather short. And, as a classic dresser, I don’t believe everything should be on display. But, sometimes reason goes out the window. And I really, really wanted to wear them. However, to ensure I maintained the classic look, I partnered them with a loose fitting top.

Today’s Outfit: The season for shorts

As us Aussies know, our sun burnt country is going through a heat wave. So, while I run around town meeting friends for coffees, doing last minute christmas shopping and other everyday tasks I need an outfit which is both practical  in the heat yet stylish.

This summer, I am absolutely into shorts. Long shorts, short shorts, I don’t really care. As long as they are colourful and comfortable.

By now, you will know that Jones New York is one of my favourite brands. The clothes fit me well, I like the way they are made, and the materials of usually of a high quality despite being very friendly on the wallet. And today’s shorts are no different. They are a stretchy cotton so fit the bill perfectly. And cost me about AU$20 as they were on sale. Perfect!!

However, to offset the busy pattern and bright colours, I needed a simple top to accompany it;  a thin, white Ralph Lauren cotton shirt was the perfect match.

Despite enjoying a pop of colour, keeping an outfit simple and comfortable is a key mantra of mine. The lines need to be relatively straight, but still add the elegant funk I enjoy.

Today’s Outfit – An Unconventional Outfit….

Today I felt like wearing something completely different. It was hot, I didn’t feel like wearing a dress, or slacks, or anything really. I would go to work naked if I could. However, I felt it might cause some commotion if i turned up at the office naked. And then I decided to wear something very unconventional – shorts and a shirt!

Admittedly I work in PR so there is some flexibility in what we wear to work, however, I knew I had to dress it up. So, with my gorgeous white shorts, I wore a long sleeved brightly coloured, paisley, but very thin cotton shirt.

With my favourite NARS make up (will definitely do a post on this later), and some heels it looked smarter than your typical shorts and top outfit.

IMG_2564

I love these shorts because the material is a thick, stretchy, cotton which looks smart while still being comfy. The shirt adds the pop of colour and paisley will always be a classic pattern (no matter how crazy the colours).

To give myself a bit of extra shape under my shirt (which is more baggy than usual), I used my favourite Fabulous by Victoria’s Secret push up bra. It is seriously comfortable and gives one extra shape and oomph. It really is a girls best friend. More so than diamonds.

Understandably, this outfit wouldn’t work for many workplaces, however, it is a fantastic outfit for a casual, summer outing.  All while you still look smart and sassy.

What is your favourite casual summer outfit? And is it a little unconventional? I would love to see them on the Instagram hashtags #breakingdownbarriers and #aquaintrellelife.

Package arrived!

Today is a good day. I ordered some clothes from the US many weeks ago and today they arrived!

I’m sure you will see the outfits roll out over the next few weeks but so far so good. Some are a bit small, but it gives me an incentive to tighten the bod in the lead up to summer. Otherwise my lovely followers will benefit when I choose to sell them.
